Web Page Titles and SEO
The title for your web page is contained in a special HTML tag. The page title appears in the very top bar of your web browser. (In Windows, this top bar is usually blue or grey depending on your browser.) On a Mac the page title appears in the top grey bar with lines.
Your page title is important since it contains the text that search engines use in their listing for your page. In addition, keywords or key phrases in your page title carry a high weighting in search engine algorithms
It is important to set your web page titles correctly:
- include keywords or a key phrase in your page title, but do not repeat keywords
- limit the length of your page title to 7 words
- use a unique title on each page of your website
- relate your page title to the content on your web page
If you follow these simple rules, your website should rank higher in search engine results pages.
