Flash Websites and Search Engine Optimization
Flash is ideal for website animations. However, most search engines cannot index content contained in Flash movies. They simply cannot identify text or follow links contained in Flash. Google is an exception.
If you must have Flash in your website we suggest using:
- Flash as a component within a standard web page, rather than as the whole page
- text links rather than relying on Flash links to navigate your website
- keywords and key phrases as standard text rather than incoporating into Flash segments
If your business performance relies on your website being found in search engine results, we do not recommend building your site entirely within Flash. However tempting this may be for a leading edge presentation, at this point in search engine development an all Flash site will penalize your website. However, if your marketing and sales strategies drive visitors to your website from other media, then an all Flash website may very well work for you.
